Is Hell Eternal? What About God’s Love for the Soul?

A listener asked:

If a soul finds himself in hell and will not repent from his sins, then why should he be released from his prison? And if the soul does not repent, it means he does not want to be close to God, who is The Light. He would rather be in prison so that he may remain in his darkness. All unrepentant sinners will have their part in the lake of fire which burns forever.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

But does God’s love continue to follow the soul? Yes, God’s love even follows the soul to hell, as Clare illustrated with a testimony of a soul being rescued from hell.

Psalms 139 : 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

The fire itself burns forever and the prison remains a prison for the unrepentant sinners. It is a misguided teaching that there is no salvation from hell, that these souls are eternally condemned by the Lord. He died on the cross for these beings too and accepted their guilt. His love is greater than his wrath. And I praise Him for that…. our Lord Jesus Christ, the Supreme Spirit who lives for ever and ever, the Lover of our souls…. Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. [1 Timothy 2 : 4]

Clare replied to him:

“HELL IS ETERNAL just as HEAVEN IS ETERNAL.” JESUS spoke that.

Well, there is a little misunderstanding here, I believe. The soul that was rescued was a near-death experience that cried out for mercy. It was not his time, he was given another chance. Others that are not given that chance will NEVER be rescued from Hell, because the LORD states that. No matter how merciful I think God is, I cannot invalidate His very own words when He says Hell is eternal just as Heaven is eternal. So please, everyone, do not get confused about what I said…in no way does it contradict Jesus’ very own words.

Love, Clare

Our listener replied one more time:

Thank you for your response! If we will not come to agreement now, I hope we will in the future. You claim it is heresy to believe that people can be saved from hell. And yet I believe that if the Lord wanted to save a soul from hell, he most certainly could do it. If I were God, I would save souls from hell if they showed signs of repentance, and I do not claim to have more mercy than God.

Psalm 136 states repeatedly: “….his mercy endureth for ever.” His Word does not say his mercy quits at the borders of hell. His mercy endures forever. I read through the words from the Lord to you, and I saw nothing that contradicts my belief that there is salvation from hell. He told you in the message on this page, “it is the soul who condemns himself or herself by her free will choices.” The soul is the one who chooses hell or heaven. The soul has free will, but what we Christians are ignorant about is this possibility: If a soul in hell uses her free will to repent and turn away from sin, and performs acts of kindness to her neighbor, would God save that soul? I believe God’s power is still in effect there, and the soul will see an improvement in her situation. And if we pray for the soul in hell, she will receive an influx of strength. I do not believe that the Lord condemns that soul to hell for all eternities, but I believe “his mercy endureth for ever”. If you think I have overestimated the Lord’s mercy, kindly pray for me! I pray for you! I do not want to be guilty of heresy, but your words have not convinced me to change my thinking about salvation from hell, and the Lord’s words to you do not contradict my belief. May God continue to bless you with spiritual enlightenment and may he be merciful with us sinners.

Clare’s final reply stated:

Well I didn’t mention the word heresy, we don’t get into doctrine on this channel as much as the love of God. I was just defending the words of Jesus.

If we believe that Hell is not eternal, then it can be argued that Heaven is not eternal either, which opens a can of worms for true heretics to pervert the Apostle’s Creed and even re-write the Bible, leaving out “eternity,” since the Lord chose to use the same word for eternal with both Hell and Heaven.

So, you see how dangerous this could become? Since He created both, He is Master of all and we do not have any information on this beyond what He gave us. That alone raises a concern. If He did not tell us that Hell is not Eternal, I believe He did it for a very good reason and for my part I do not want to negate His words to us.

I don’t question His mercy, but neither do I presume on it to say things not even He said. I feel this is the safest posture to preserving the integrity of the word of God. When He returns and all is fulfilled as it is written, we will continue to learn of His glory and mercy, but until then, for His sake I need to be faithful to His words. Peace, dear. I do believe in extraordinary mercy at the hour of death…and some would call me a heretic for that.

Love, Clare

Whatever cannot be rehabilitated by Mercy is annihilated by Justice, is it true???? and indeed how many inhabited planets like the earth otherwise known as Urantia, with mortals of time and space like us human beings have hell in its bosom? please google “Urantia book” if it reveals other truths beyond what we know

    Dear Carol,
Our Lord Jesus helps us all!
This is so disturbing, I have just heard that people in the United States are already taking the Mark of the Beast. It is been given to prisoners, in fact, it is actually part of Obama Care.
Please let the people know about this evil act against them and their free well.

excuse me – I’m not a most high educated scribe, but if you find somewhere the term “eternities” – plural! – (as I find in my bible translation) then this might be the hint leading to the knowledge, that eternity would describe a very very long but not unlimited time. Our Lord is Love, isn’t He ? (Ps 145:13, Is 26:4, Eph 3:9, 3:11, 3:21) – (numbering might be slightly different in your bible)
Also, if hell would never cease to exist (the worm that will not die etc.), then this doesn’t say nothing about that souls would have to stay there for never ending times – In any case – I cannot find such a sentence in my bible.
