Why does God even love us if we are so wicked? I’m afraid He’ll destroy me because I don’t have enough faith.

There’s something very revealing in this question from a listener. Let’s look at this question a little more closely.

God doesn’t love us “even though” we are wicked. He hates the wickedness that man does. But there’s a BIG difference between sinful men and wicked deeds.

Everyone is born a sinner – we can’t help it. It’s because of the Fall of Adam and Eve, and it’s just the way it is. Because of that, first God made a way of salvation by covering over men’s sins, by placing them on the backs/blood of slain lambs, bulls, etc. For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. Lev. 17:11

No-one knows exactly what spiritual laws God is using when He does this – it’s just something we have to accept on faith. For some reason, sin must be covered/removed/atoned for by the shedding of blood – end of story.

Well, men multiplied. Not all were sacrificing to the Lord, or believed they could (they weren’t Jews.) And sacrifices didn’t get rid of the sins, it only allowed men to be cleansed temporarily. Many were even sacrificing to Satan, albeit under many different names.

HOWEVER – God, right from before the world began, provided a way that at just the right time could be fulfilled – He planned that Jesus would come as a man, live and die on the Cross and be a FINAL blood sacrifice for EVERYONE that chose to believe in Him and accept His death as the solution to our sins.

Moses’ Teachings with their yearly cycle of sacrifices are only a shadow of the good things in the future. They aren’t an exact likeness of those things. They can never make those who worship perfect. If these sacrifices could have made the worshipers perfect, the sacrifices would have stopped long ago. Those who worship would have been cleansed once and for all. Their consciences would have been free from sin. Instead, this yearly cycle of sacrifices reminded people of their sins. (The blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins.)

For this reason, when Christ came into the world, he said,

“‘You did not want sacrifices and offerings,
but you prepared a body for me.
You did not approve of burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin.’
Then I said, ‘I have come!
(It is written about me in the scroll of the book.)
I have come to do what you want, my God.’”

In this passage Christ first said, “You did not want sacrifices, offerings, burnt offerings, and sacrifices for sin. You did not approve of them.” (These are the sacrifices that Moses’ Teachings require people to offer.) Then Christ says, “I have come to do what you want.” He did away with sacrifices in order to establish the obedience that God wants. 10 We have been set apart as holy because Yeshua Christ did what God wanted him to do by sacrificing his body once and for all.

11 Every day each priest performed his religious duty. He offered the same type of sacrifice again and again. Yet, these sacrifices could never take away sins. 12 However, this chief priest made one sacrifice for sins, and this sacrifice lasts forever. Then he received the highest position in heaven. 13 Since that time, he has been waiting for his enemies to be made his footstool. 14 With one sacrifice he accomplished the work of setting them apart for God forever.

15 The Holy Spirit tells us the same thing: 16 “This is the promise[a] that I will make to them after those days, says the Lord: ‘I will put my teachings in their hearts and write them in their minds.’”

17 Then he adds, “I will no longer hold their sins and their disobedience against them.”

18 When sins are forgiven, there is no longer any need to sacrifice for sins.

19 Brothers and sisters, because of the blood of Yeshua we can now confidently go into the holy place. 20 Yeshua has opened a new and living way for us to go through the curtain. (The curtain is his own body.) 21 We have a superior priest in charge of God’s house. 22 We have been sprinkled with his blood to free us from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with clean water. So we must continue to come to him with a sincere heart and strong faith. 23 We must continue to hold firmly to our declaration of faith. The one who made the promise is faithful. Hebrews 10: 1-19

God loves ALL of us (do you remember the message Jesus gave that spoke of how God literally reaches into His bosom/heart and draws out a tiny part – and that becomes our souls?*) We ARE a part of Him. But when we are placed in a body and born – He also gives us free will. THAT is where things get sticky.

Everyone is a sinner. Only some actually become wicked. Wickedness is because of Satan and the demons; wickedness comes from doing things totally evil, because the demons are actually driving you to do them. Wickedness is Hitler, Pol Pot, Boko Haram, ISIS. Wickedness is living, breathing, thinking and acting in sin at all times, fueled by demons. Indeed, the truly wicked have their place, too, even though it breaks the Father heart to allow them their “place.”

For what is the hope of the godless when he is cut off, When God requires his life? Job 27:8

Do I actually delight in the death of the wicked? says the Lord Jehovah. Is it not that he should turn from his ways and live? Ezekiel 18:23

Okay. Now, the part about “God destroying you because you lack faith.” You believe that God is good, correct? That He loves, indeed IS Love.

But God is rich in mercy because of his great love for us. We were dead because of our failures, but he made us alive together with Christ. (It is God’s kindness that saved you.) Eph. 2:4-5

… it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 1 Tim. 2:3-4

What does it look like when one person loves another? Does a good mother treat her little child with anything less than love, compassion, gentleness and guidance? Does it matter if in anger he screams out, “I hate you!” – does that change her treatment or feelings towards him, this little part of her very self?

If your little animal friends could talk, and told you they “don’t have faith” that you will be kind to them, will feed and take care of them anymore…would that change YOU?? Or would you gather them all up in your arms and hug them and assure them that you love them so much, and would never stop taking care of them?

It’s the same with God! He loves you – period! He is NOT going to stop loving, stop guiding, stop providing and protecting you just because you have a weak moment/span of time in believing. No, no – rather He will love you with great tenderness, and gently arrange things in your life to increase your faith, improve your understanding of Who He is and protect you with His own Holy angels.

Have courage, now. Believe that what He tells you is true: His mercies, His love will NEVER fail. They are not connected in any way to your amount of faith in Him, but on His character alone.
